Delay for 9 hours

Air India is one company that i have seen had multiple issues.First they wo'nt call u when flight is delayed, there is no staff to help. After Diwali on Sunday(7 Nov 2010),there is utter chaos on International Airport.People have confirmed tickets and no seat is given.Looks like post Diwali they have sold it at higher rate so as to receive good money.I think no body should take ever an AIR INDIA or INDIAN AIRLINES flight. They are literally SARKARI and will remain so.MAY THIS END.Helpline pople make fun of you.PLZ PLZ PLZ do'nt hire any AIR INDIA flight.

Supplying outdated snacks

I was travelling from Seoul to Delhi on November 4, 2010 by Air India flight AI317 which departed from Seoul at 15.30PM after almost two hrs delay. The flight had a technical stop at Hong Kong airport for an hr. During the flight we were served drinks and snacks before lunch. I was really shocked that the snacks (roasted masala nuts) were outdated stocks. It was manufactured in April 2010. The packet clearly stated that it is meant for consumption only up to six months from the date of manufacture. When I complained the same, the staff gave me a form to fill it and sealed the same along with the empty packet. They assured me that it will be delivered to the appropriate department. It is too early to receive a response from the concerned authorities.

What kind of an image AI wants to showcase? As a government employee, I am forced to travel by AI. Till now I am only familiar with the poor serice offered to the passengers by AI. First time, I realise that AI is not bothered to serve outdated food products to its passengers even on international flight.

I am really ashamed and upset to support an organization like AI that lacks respect to its customers.

Denial of boarding pass for valid eticket

I went to Vancouver and participated in The international conference INPC 2010 organised by TRIUMF in UBC, Vancouver, Canada. The onward journey from Delhi to Vancouver via Frankfurt, and Toronto was completed without any incident.

During the return journey, from Vancouver on reaching Frankfurt inter-national airport Air-India (AI) counter via Toronto, i was told on 14th July 2010, that the eticket (ETKT 014 ############) is not giving full itinerary of travel in AI database. AI staff asked me to contact the Air-Canada (whose office is outside security check area in Frankfurt international airport) for resolving the problem. On my query the Air-Canada vouched that my eticket is proper & valid. After doing security check again and going to AI counter, they maintained that the problem persists.

After lot of discussions, AI staff went to Lufthansa (by which I flew from Toronto to Frankfurt) counter who expressed their in-ability to resolve the problem. Later AI staff went to Air-Canada who showed that their database shows the itinerary in full for the entire travel from Vancouver to Delhi via Toronto and Frankfurt.. This ordeal of running between AI & Air-Canada went on for few hours which ended in NIL result. The AI staff gave coupons for lunch, dinner & breakfast as the transit visa for a day was not available.

The next day with the same air ticket AI managed to give boarding pass from Frankfurt to Delhi without any fuss in the same flight. This kind of harassment (staying overnight in Airport) to customers does not promote your business.

I gave this complaint to Air Canada, Air India. When Air India kept silent on the complaint, i give below the response of Air Canada

Dear Mr. Muralithar

We thank you for your e mail of the 19th July 2010 which I have read with a great deal of interest and concern. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused to you at Frankfurt airport.

I have thoroughly checked your flight records and itinerary and everything is in correct order. I do not understand as to why Air India in Frankfurt did not accept your for travel. We take matters such as this very seriously indeed and I have therefore forwarded your e mail to the appropriate departmental manager for their investigation and for an internal review. We need to avoid a re-occurence of such a matter.

On behalf of Air Canada please accept my apologies for the disappointment and inconvenience you experienced on this occasion and we do hope we can welcome you back on board our flights in the not too distant future when we can prove to you how pleasant and trouble free it can be when you fly with us.

Yours sincerely,

Joy Hamerton
Customer Relations Department

regards & thanks

damaged baggage

I travelled from Dubai to Delhi by AI 746 on 29th April, 2009. There were two check-in baggages, one of which was a 32" LCD TV. At the time of check in, the LCD TV was in good condition. However, on landing at IGI Delhi, the outer carton was damaged in a couple of places. One of the damaged portion of the carton was very deep upto the screen of the LCD TV but I did not think that the TV would have been damaged, hence I did not complain at that point of time. However, on checking at home, the LCD TV is not in working condition. The screen has been damaged and the cracks are visible once the TV is turned on. It is very unfortunate that I have to suffer due to negligience of the airline. It is very baffling to see such poor quality of service from your airline. Please take the necessary steps to compensate for the loss.

The baggage tag for the LCD TV is XH 958735

The make of the LCD TV is Sony Bravia EX300 32" LCD and it was purchased from Carrefour, Dubai on 28th April '09 for 1499 Dirhams.

Broken Luggage

I wish to submit that I was made to put my guitar in checked in baggae at the Indira gandhi international Airport whie traveling from New delhi to Mumbai on 31 may 10. The reson given was that a passenger is not allowed more than 2 pieces of luggage in the cabin. I had a laptop bag and a haversack and had requested that the guitar be permitted in addition. The reason why the haversack could not be put in the check in baggae was that the weight was going to 39kgs. I requested that I was a full fare passenger and was under transfer and therefore if it could be acceptable if I could go to 39kgs. however i was intimated that I would have to pay for the same. Post that i requested the staff to put a fragile badge on the guitar and handle with care. however no such thing was done and the guitar landed broken in two pieces. It is submitted that the guitar is beyond repair and has no further utility. The broken guitar has been kept in as is condition to show the authorities when asked to.

I lodged a complaint and is recoreded as Log 92 in the register at Mumbai Airport. I was assured that someone from the airlines will get in touch with me. However todate there has been no response from the authorities. I have given reminder calls to the airport and was told that the case is beng procesed. I was told to lodge a complaint on the net to customer service. I did the same on the official website of Air India, however, the mails have bounced back. i have a record of the bounced mails on two occasions to prove the same.

I would like to now take official action against the authorities for their callous and inappropriate behaviour. I am in the goverment services and forced to fly by Air India. I have no choice.

My husband, two daughters and I trevelled to Singapore on AI 480 dated 28dec 2009.We were travelling there to admit our elder daughter to college, hence, for all the formalities to be completed.we were to stay in Singapore for 10 days. Also,we were travelling with 5 checked in bags and no hand bags.To my utter shock, dismay and horror, the heaviest bag weighing 35Kgs.did not reach the destination. We completed the formalities at the Lost Baggage Section and were handed over a Property Irregularity Report. We were told that as soon as the bag was traced,we would be informed. We were given two tel.nos.where we could enquire about the status of the bag. KINDLY PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THE REST OF THE COMPLAINT.......I chose AIRINDIA OUT OF LOYALTY TO THE NATIONAL CARRIER,but I must say here that it was one of the most humiliating experiences in all my years of extensive international travel. No country in the world must be treating their citizens as shabbily as this.We received absolutely no communication from the airline about the bag,and all the calls that we made on the 2 nos.given were not received.NOT EVEN ONE CALL WAS ANSWERED.All my personal effects were in the bag which was missing. Most naturally, after checking into the hotel after a considerable delay at the airport,we were forced to go to the shops as I had to shop for my basic necessities such as toiletries, lingerie and a pair of clothes. We were in a foriegn land with limited resources meant mainly for our daughter, having to waste it as the airline had not delivered my bag.The next day, after still not getting any call fromthe airline and no response to the hundreds of calls that we made to the airline,we had no choice but to go to the airport to enquire about the bag.It was a huge task trying to contact the Lost Baggage Section from outside the airport as the same problem persisted. They were just not answering the phone.Subsequently,I was issued a police pass to enter and utterly harassed when I reached their,I was asked very rudely,as to why I had made the trip to the airport,I was in tears as I had absolutely no clothes or shoes to wear.My elder daughter had to move into the hostel and items of her use for her hostel room were also in the bag.At times like this, the frustration is extremely high, since we were having to spend on things which were necessary, but because of some negligence on the airline's part we were having to suffer the consequences. And to make it worse, the INSUFFERABLE ARROGANCE of the staff.Respectable people treated as if we were out to make a fast buck at the cost of the airline.Taxi charges were not offered or given to us and to top it all,the bag had vanished into thin air.For the rest of my trip my bag was not located and till date I have not received a single call from the airline about the bag.I am extremely agitated about the attitude of the airline and the nonchalant behaviour of the staff towards its passengers.I had been waiting all this while since I had been hoping against hope that my bag might still be traced,as I had submitted a detailed list to the lost baggage here of the items in the bag,but after all this time,I realized that this is not going to happen.I must reiterate here that I expect a prompt reply to my complaint and also inform me when to expect my bag.

LTC 80 fairs not updated since 2009.Pathetic. Charging is no where nearer to the fair published in the web. Government departments are not given any direction as to the reimbursement of excess/fairs charged. Government servants are taken for a ride and effectively discouraged to travel. Indirect way of curbing expenditure!. I plan to go to a consumer court for such kind of apathy by a national carrier running in losses due to inefficiency. By the way, I wanted to travel from New Delhi to Trivandrum on ltc. when contacted, Air India quoted a fair of Rs.11650/- one way for one person whereas my DDO says that only Rs.7505 could be reimbursable. I have 4 tickets one way, that means I will have to shell out Rs.32000 from my savings for this journey. what a joke. I am disappointed and planning to cancel the trip. However, I am planning to use the fair certificate issued by the Air India to get the things right by way of a consumer complaint for the benefit of future travelers.
