Extremely rude and abusive behaviour
We were travelling from Chennai to Kolkata via the 19:45 hrs Indigo flight, and as we were caught up in a very bad traffic situation, we finally entered the airport at 18:50hrs. We had already checked in and moved to the Indigo check in counter for bag drop. I was travelling with my wife and mother. The Indigo staff at the counter, a young gentleman, initially verified our IDs and was about to accept the baggage, but after a female colleague of his suggested that check in was over, we were told to move to security counter with our check in luggage, and that they will understand. However, at the counter, were asked to remove a pair of scissors, but the nature in which Mr. Amit Kumar, the security personnel started talking to my wife and mother, was extremely rude and abusive. I understand that it was their duty to ask us to remove any sharp objects, but it was no fault of hours that Indigo sent us there. He even went to the point of saying things like, "we had no idea of rules of travelling", "we were lucky he was "allowing" us to travel", "he would stop us and hold us up and see how we complete our journey", etc. Heated arguments might occur, we understand they have work pressures too, but that doesn't mean they can verbally abuse us. For the record, both me and my wife are doctors, and we have travelled both in domestic and international sectors for the number of times I'm sure this Mr. Amit Kumar won't imagine. But even if some passenger is travelling for the first time, isn't it their duty to help them out, or to harass and abuse them. We were finally taken to his senior who was extremely polite and cordial and handled the situation like the pro he was. He didn't need to flash his authority or abuse us to do his duty, why then did his junior officer, Mr. Amit Kumar need to do it then? The entire time he threatened us that everything was getting recorded in the camera he had on him, but Sr/Madam, it did not threaten us....infact we would like you to really go through the footage to see the entire event. It is because of people like Mr. Amit Kumar that the security personnel earn a bad name. We request you to take strict action against such personnel as we don't think a person who can't respect women deserve to do such duties involving public dealings.
We look forward to your response at the earliest. We are even thinking of taking the matter up with the Women's Commission. Kindly get back to us.
